Twelve weeks ago, before our workouts with the trainers began, we were tested to see how far we could run in 12 minutes and how many pushups and situps we could do in one minute.

Today, after twelve weeks of grueling work, we were given the same test. My results:

Week 1 twelve-minute run: .81 miles
Week 12 twelve-minute run: 1.04 miles

Week 1 situps in 60 seconds: 30
Week 12 situps in 60 seconds: 35

Week 1 pushups in 60 seconds: 32
Week 12 pushups in 60 seconds: 41

It was good to see measurable progress in each category, but the 12-minute run was the most satisfying. I remember the first run like it was yesterday. I was so scared and so out of my element. I decided to start at a speed of 5.2 to show that I was willing to start big….20 seconds later, I had to ratchet it down to 4.0 because I couldn’t keep up. Today, I started at 5.2, kept it there for 11 minutes and then went to 5.5 for the last 60 seconds. It was very, very cool to not only see, but FEEL, the difference.

We also took my measurements this morning, and those showed major progress as well. I lost three inches per thigh and 1.5 inches in each upper arm. I lost four inches around the chest and my body fat decreased by 10%.

Today was exactly what I needed because I’d been in a funk since the contest ended. I didn’t feel like I could find my footing and a stomach bug further threw me off schedule. Today, experiencing all this good news, renewed my spirits and I’m ready to keep this journey going.

About Kristen K

My life has always been pretty darn fantastic--except for one thing: my weight. Not too long ago, I tipped the scale at 283 pounds. I'd gain some, lose some and gain some right back, and I was so frustrated. When I saw a notice for a Biggest Loser-style contest in my local paper, I applied on the spot and I felt like I won the lottery when I found out I was one of the five contestants chosen. We worked out four times a week with trainers and followed a clean eating diet, and my life completely transformed. I've lost more than 60 pounds and I'm feeling confidence for the first time in my life. I'm 29 years old with a great husband, a rewarding job, two adorable dogs and fantastic friends. Weight loss continues to be a struggle now that the contest has ended, but this time I know that I can do it and I'm fully committed. This blog has seved as an accountability tool as I journey from a happy, but fat, person to a happy and confident person. And for the first time in my life, I'm no longer putting it off until tomorrow. This time, I'm starting this minute.

That is awesome. Measurable progress is sometimes hard to come by; I think I’ve gained muscle in my Avon Walk training, but it’s hard to know without a before and after BMI reading.

    Keep going!!
